simplehuman Sensor Mirror Sensor Activated Lighted
Trying to move products out of the house that have Fluorescent lamps inside, since they contain toxic mercury. This quality LED based mirror fits the bill and I can finally get rid of my wife's old mirror that was illuminated with a fluorescent ring lamp / bulb. My wife loves this mirror! The other really bad thing about most fluorescent lamps is that they put out Ultra-Violet (UV) light, and that can cause eye problems over time. There is a lot of info on the web about UV and cataracts, macular degeneration, etc. Fluorescent lamps put out the highest amount of UV compared to other common light bulbs. The standard Edison bulb (incandescent) puts out very little UV, but a quality LED bulb puts out no UV. The LEDs in this mirror seem to be very high quality. You can tell by how the color red looks when illuminated with this mirror, compared to a cheap LED flashlight. Turn out the bathroom lights, and illuminate red on a package with this mirror, and then with this mirror off, illuminate red with an LED flashlight (all other lights out). The difference is incredible. Reds look better with this mirror than with our old fluorescent vanity mirror as well. Cheap LED mirrors use cheap LEDs, like the kind in flashlights. Do the test yourself if you have a cheap LED mirror. This is an excellent product, no toxic mercury, good for the environment and better for our health!

While this mirror may be a bit pricy, its features make it worth the price. Its LED lighting system and sensor that makes turning the light off and on no longer necessary are far better than any other mirror system I've seen. The LED lighting system is far brighter, truer to daylight than any other light I've seen. Being LED lights, they turn on and off instantly, with no warm up needed, the light is cool instead of hot like incandescent lighting and will last many years without needing replacement.
BalasHapusThe 5x magnification is invaluable for my wife who is legally blind so she can't use regular vanity mirrors and so almost never wears makeup any more since she can't see what she is doing. With this mirror that's no longer a problem since the magnification and bright lighting allow her to see her face in detail.
The final thing about this mirror is its recharge ability so it operates cordlessly.
This may not be a big deal if there is only one woman in the house but I have 3 here - my wife, daughter and granddaughter. So everyone trying to use the bathroom mirror because of its bright lighting is a take a number proposition. With this mirror, each one can take it to their own bedroom and do their makeup, leaving the main bathroom free for the rest of us to use. I don't know about you, but that alone makes it worth the price in my eyes.
Even though the bathroom mirror is well lighted, it isn't nearly as true to daylight as this mirror and has no magnification factor either. The lighting is yellow tinged like all incandescent lighting. Even with white frosted bulbs, it isn't long before the light starts yellowing as the frosting ages and gets burned by the filament's heat. LED lighting maintains its white color for years, as it has with my display lighting. All my display lights are about 3 years old and still as white as the day I mounted them. I expect nothing less from these lights as well. Also, LED lights use so little electricity that charges last 5-8 times longer than incandescent lights of far lower lumen output. My lights run off 3 AAA batteries each and run for 5-6 hours a day yet only need recharging about once a month unless I forget to turn them off at bed time. Then they last about a week per charge. I'd expect about the same performance per recharging for this mirror or even longer since it automatically turns on and off when in use. That should be about 1/2 hour or less per user per day and with three users, that is a maximum usage of 1 1/2 hour a day, not 6-8 hours.
You can recharge it using the provided USB cord hooked to your computer (handy if you are travelling and choose to take the mirror with you) or else the provided AC charger. There is a light ring around the base that glows Green while charging. While operating cordless, that ring will glow Red when it needs to be recharged. LED lights don't really dim as they run low on power. they generally maintain their white light output until they can't run any more.

BalasHapusLOVE this mirror. I've used other mirrors in the past and couldn't stand the plugging in or the heat that other mirrors generate from the bulb. Most of all, the lights on those mirrors were not very good-not bright enough or yellow in color.
BalasHapusThis sensor mirror gives me a real view of my face-bright enough to see everything(which is sometimes scary!) clearly and truly. I can move it from my bathroom to my room with no problem and the fact it turns on when I need and I can walk away without turning it off is amazing. I've charged it once when I first got it-which was a month ago and still have not had to recharge it. Easily the best vanity mirror I've ever used. Worth every penny.
I recently moved into a new condo that is very contemporary. So, functionality aside, this mirror gets 5 stars for looks alone. It is very sleek and well made. It looks fabulous and is high quality.
BalasHapusBut what I really love about this mirror is the hands free element. It turns on when I get close to it and turns off when I leave. Its fantastic for putting on makeup because you dont have to touch a thing. The power source is great too. You can plug it into a USB if you choose to. I love this mirror.
I think there is absolutely no denying that is is a remarkably beautiful and sleek mirror. The design is superb. The convenience of being able to use it without a cord is amazing. Love that you can carry it to your favorite place and not have cords cluttering up the tabletop. It charges by USB and then holds its charge for weeks so you can stash the cord in the drawer until needed again. It is very bright and lights up very well. The sensor is spot on and lights up automatically when you go to look in the mirror. It will turn off automatically too. Because of this, the entire outer surface of the unit is sleek and easy to wipe down to keep clean. The weighted base keeps the mirror stable no matter what position you tilt the mirror to. It tilts up and down very easily and holds its position. The image reflected back is magnified at 5X and so extremely clear. You can see from edge to edge at perfect clarity without any distortions. I've used magnified mirrors before that had distortions and so you only had one small area of clarity. Not this one! And that makes this mirror so much more superior. There really are no cons to this mirror - it truly is a work of art. If money is not an issue and you are looking for a truly great magnified mirror - this is the one to have.
BalasHapusThis mirror is only a 5x magnification. It would be great to have a normal mirror and/or a higher magnification available too. As it is though, this is a remarkably well designed and built mirror. I would definitely recommend it.
This mirror is like nothing else out there. The light ring (LED, not fluorescent so no bulbs!) is super bright and lets me see things that I've never noticed before. Especially great for plucking stray hairs and getting makeup on evenly. It lights up and turns off by itself which is pretty cool. The part I like best is that it's cordless. (I'm still waiting for someone to make a cordless hairdryer!). Pricey, but you get what you pay for.
BalasHapusLove this lighted Mirror! Have been searching for a good quality, well lighted mirror for years; the choices were between some that seemed fine but cost way too much, or more reasonable priced ones that had poor lighting, poor mirrors, or both.
BalasHapusThis Simple Human product is very thoughtfully designed. It turn on automatically when you look into it, and turns itself off when you leave it...all hands free! The mirror quality is very good and the light is fine. (Although this product clearly rates a five for me if I could change anything I'd make the light a tad brighter). Can now see how my mascara application has not reached all the way to the base of my eyelashes at the outer corners; just this one improvement makes a big difference and has resulted in more eye complements! The cordless feature is another plus, I like to pluck my eyebrows in natural light so just pick this up and take it to my favorite spot without unplugging and replugging. Have only had to recharge once. It even has a simple, pleasing shape - though I 'd love it no matter what it looked like.
Only thing is now I;m lost when I travel, so hope S8imple Human considers a travel version at some point. You can find less expensive mirrors but this one is worth the money to me.
This lighted mirror exceeds ALL of our expectations! The magnification is clear and very large, the light is super bright and you can see everything you need to see close up. The mirror has some wonderful, cool features as well! You can plug it in to charge it and then leave it unplugged and it operates cordlessly after a good charge. When charging there is a light around the base that turns green, and when it needs a charge it will warn you by turning red. One of the most amazing features is it comes on when you stand in front of it/look into it without a switch. This is a really, really nice mirror. Nothing but compliments!!
